Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar (1/3 cup for dinner bread)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cups scalded milk
  • 5 cups flour
  • 3 large eggs

Directions

Dissolve the yeast and the 1 teaspoon sugar in warm water. Combine butter, 1/3 - 1/2 cup sugar and salt. Pour scalded milk over these ingredients and stir to melt the butter.

Cool, then add the yeast mixture and 1/2 the flour. Beat in the eggs and beat the batter throughly. Add the rest of the flour to make a soft, but nonsticky dough. Turn the dough out onto a floured breadboard and knead well. Place in buttered bowl; cover and let rise until doubled. Cut the dough into diamonds, or any shape preferred. Dip each piece of dough into melted butter, then arrange them in a buttered 10 inch tube pan. Cover and let rise again till almost doubled.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for approximately 45 minutes or till browned and done.
