Ingredients
- 1 pt. buttermilk
 - 1/2 tsp salt
 - 1/4 tsp soda
 - 1 tbsp vegetable shortening
 - 3 heaping tsp baking powder
 - Flour-enough to make a biscuit dough
 - Syrup for Bread:
 - 1 pt. white corn syrup
 - 1 lb. brown sugar
 
Directions
Mix bread ingredients together, knead till smooth, roll out to 1/2 inch thickness; cut out in desired shape and fry in kettle of hot shortening.
 
 Syrup: Boil together, using no water. Add 1 tbsp of mapeline. Take from fire and beat into the above 1/2 c. bacon druppings. Bread and syrup should both be served hot.
