Since this recipe is from the mid-30's, I'm sure that the rice used was long grain. Rinsing the rice before cooking it keeps the pudding from becoming too sticky.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups milk, scalded
  • 1/4 cup rice
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions

Wash rice. Combine milk, rice, sugar, and salt. Pour into shallow baking dish. Bake in slow oven (325 degrees F) for about 3 hours. Stire frequently. Add raisins. Continue baking until rice is soft and plump. Makes 8 servings.
