Ingredients

  • 1 = lb. beef stew meat, cut
  • into =-inch cubes
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. salt (optional)
  • pepper
  • shortening
  • 4 small onions, sliced
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • mushrooms
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 4 whole allspice
  • 1 c. sliced carrots
  • 0= c. celery, sliced

Directions

Dredge beef in flour; mix with salt and pepper. Brown
in shortening, turning as needed to brown evenly. Add onions,
water, bouillon, mushrooms, cloves and allspice. Cover tight-
ly. Simmer 2 hours. Add remaining vegetables. Cook until
vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes.
