Ingredients

  • 4 Cups All-Purpose Flour,Sifted
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 4 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Mace
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 2 Eggs

Directions

1) Sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, mace and cinnamon.

2) Dissolve the sugar in the milk. Add 1 egg and beat well. Add 1 cup of the flour mixture and beat well. Add 1 more egg and beat well. Add the remainder of the flour mixture and mix well. Cover with a plate and set in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 3 hours.

3) Turn out all of the dough onto a sheet of waxed paper sprinkled with flour. Pat down and spread to 1/2 inch thickness (use floured fingers; work quickly and lightly with little pressure on dough).

4) Cut with donut cutter and fry 3 at a time in 1-1/2 to 2 inches of oil in a Dutch oven heated to 190 C (Position 2) (370 F). Turn at the first crack (approx. 3 minutes).
