Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs. green tomatoes, sliced 1/8 inch thick
  • 1 medium onion, sliced 1/8 inch thick
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 sweet red pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 2 teaspoons mustard seed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
  • Dash ground cloves
  • Dash cinnamon
  • Dash peppe

Directions

1. Layer tomatoes, onion and salt in glass dish, 9x9x2 inches; cover. Refrigerate at least 12 hours; drain.

2. Mix remaining ingredients in medium saucepan. Add tomato mixture. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer 30 minutes. Refrigerate covered.
