Riesling Wine Tasting Notes
1998 Obester Monterey County White Riesling Score: 86.0 "Crisp aciditgy and a bit of spritz give this California Riesling a Germanic feel. Dry, but so fruity it can fool you. Good accompaniment to Cantonese cuisine, fish or pasta primavera."

1997 Erath Vineyards Willamette Valley White Riesling Late harvest Score: 90.0 "Fascinating nose of magnolia blossom and honesuckle, with floral overtones to ripe peaches on the palate. The finish adds a note of ginger just to make things interesting. With 5% residual sugar, the wine is sweet, full-bodied and silky on the mid-palate, with just enough acid to balance the finish. Serve well chilled as an aperitif, or as counterpoint to tortilla soup, sweet corn cakes or tamales. The winery also suggests pairing with crispy coconut shrimp. Yum!"

Fetzer Vineyards California Johannisberg Riesling Score: 85.0 Medium full bodied and moderately sweet with dried apricot character and very good length.
1998 Freiherr Heyl zu Herrnsheim Nierstein [Germany] Riesling Kabinett Score: 92.1 "Very fine, intense mineral quality, just off-dry apple-honeysuckle flavors, medium-light body, long spicy fruity finish. Holds a level of intensity from the nose through the finish, parceling out a great deal of complexity. A steal. Pair with sausage, pork roast, ham or turkey. "
1998 Maximin Grunhauser Mosel-Saar-Ruwer [Germany] Riesling Qualitatswein Score: 86.0 "Noticeable SO2, minerally nose, tart. sweet. spicy caramel apple on the palate, and a surprisingly short finish. After the SO2 blows off its a fascinating, if eccentric wine."
1998 Robert Mondavi Coastal Monterey Johannisberg Riesling Score: 89.0 "Vibrant green apple and honey flavors, just off-dry (about as sweet as a tart Granny Smith), light body, attractive fresh fruit through the finish. Excellent varietal definition. Wonderful as an aperitif, you could also pair it with seafood , poultry and Cantonese cuisine."
1997 Greenwood Ridge Mendocino Ridge White Riesling "estate bottled, Late Harvest" Score: 94.0 "Complex honey, orange blossom and citgrus, expansive and layered. Quite fabulous and unbelievably long. 18% residual sugar."
Chateau St. Jean Special Select Belle Terre Vineyard Alexander Valley Johannisberg Riesling Late Harvest Score: 92.0 "With 18% residual sugar, this wine is the equivalent of a Trockenbeerenauslese, lush, sweet, concentrated and complex, with apricot, honey and pear flavors that linger for minutes. One of the rarest types of wine, this nectar from St. Jean is a wonderful dessert all by itself. I wouldnt detract from the experience by serving it with food. Half bottle: "
