NOTE: I use the AirBake or CushionAire type of cookie sheet to prevent the gumdrops from burning or sticking


  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup milk+1/2Tbsp.vinegar
  • 3-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking sods
  • 3-1/2 cups small gumdrops (red & green


Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and continue to beat. Mix in dry ingredients - alternating with buttermilk. Mix in gumdrops. Chill dough overnight.

Drop rounded spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes.
