| Ingredients:
1 pt. buttermilk
1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp soda 1 tbsp vegetable shortening 3 heaping tsp baking powder Flour-enough to make a biscuit dough Syrup for Bread: 1 pt. white corn syrup 1 lb. brown sugar
Directions:
Mix bread ingredients together, knead till smooth, roll out to 1/2 inch thickness; cut out in desired shape and fry in kettle of hot shortening. Syrup: Boil together, using no water. Add 1 tbsp of mapeline. Take from fire and beat into the above 1/2 c. bacon druppings. Bread and syrup should both be served hot. |
