Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound (2sticks) butter, soft
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup plain cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Decorative icing, optional

Directions

Heat oven to 350*F. In large mixer bowl, beat butter, white and brown sugars, and vanilla at medium speed until creamy. Add eggs; beat well. In a separate bowl stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating to blend well. By scant 1/4-cupfuls, drop 18 portions of dough, about 3-inches apart, on ungreased cookie sheets. Shape into balls and insert wooden ice cream stick halfway into center of each. Flatten slightly, forming shapes if desired. Bake at 350*F. for 10 to 12 minutes or until set. Let cool 3 minutes; carefully lift to wire rack to cool completely. Decorate with icing if desired.
