Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 teaspoons molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheets. Cream shortening and sugar; beat in egg and molasses. Combine dry ingredients; add gradually to creamed mixture. Form into balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place about 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake 10 - 12 minutes. (This makes a kind of chewy cookie.

Ginger Ball Cookies
