I had excellent results on my first try. The next time I make them, I'll probably try a sweeter dough recipe. If you live near a mall, I highly suggest going to a Cinnabon store and watching them for a few minutes make their buns and you'll see how easy it is.
Ingredients
- Basic dough recipe for bread machine
- A couple Tbs. melted butter
- Brown sugar
- raisins (optional)
- nuts (optional)
- Icing:
- Butter
- Powdered sugar (10X)
Directions
I was sitting inside a Cinnabon store in the mall over the holidays watching the workers make the buns, and I realized it looked easy to do with a bread machine. I put my machine on the dough/first rise setting, and when the dough was ready, I rolled it out on a floured surface into a rectangle a little less than 1/4" thick. The dimensions are not critical, but keep in mind that the horizontal dimension determines how many buns you get, while the thickness of the bun is determined by the other dimension. Using a pastry brush, paint a layer of butter on the dough to within an inch of the edges. If nuts or raisins are desired, mix them with the brown sugar. Heap a generous amount of brown sugar in the center of the dough and spread uniformly over the butter.
Starting with the edge closest to you, tighly roll the dough into a log and gently pinch the seam to hold the roll closed. With a sharp knife, cut the log into pieces about one to one and a half inches wide. Place the pieces in a greased or sprayed baking pan so that they are just touching. Cover with a damp cloth or oiled plastic wrap and set in a warm place until doubled in size. Bake in a 350 degree oven about 30 minutes, or until they are nice and golden brown.
Prepare icing by whipping softened butter with the powdered sugar until the desired consistency is achieved. Spread on buns while still in the pan and warm.
