Curry seasoning is widely available for purchase, with a huge range of flavors, cost, and quality of ingredients. Of course, you can buy these blends off the store shelves, but it's almost as easy to mix them at home, yourself, to your own taste. This allows you full control over how much of which spices to include, and it allows you to choose exclusively organic herbs and ensure that your food is absolutely raw and free from processed ingredients. And what's better than that?

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon cardamom seeds
  • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Directions

1. In a spice grinder, coffee grinder, or blender, combine all the ingredients and process to a fine powder. You may have to do this in batches.

2. Store in a lidded glass spice jar in the pantry; will keep indefinitely.

YIELDS ABOUT 1/2 CUP. Curry Is Complicated This recipe makes a basic curry seasoning. Once you've mixed and used it a bit, you'll get a feel for what you like and what you may want to change. Curry mixtures may include any great number of spices, depending on the region they originate from, their intended heat, and of course, preference. Some additional spices to consider for your curry blend include various other chili powders, fenugreek seeds, black peppercorns, dried curry leaves, dried garlic, fennel, caraway, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and asafetida.
