Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, chopped finely
- 1 can (19 oz.) tomatoes with herbs and spices crushed in the food
- processor/blender
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar
- Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Directions
Heat oil in a pot or deep skillet. Cook garlic and onion until onion is softened taking care not to burn the garlic. Add tomatoes and stir well.
Add red pepper flakes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well and bring sauce to a boil. Simmer gently until sauce has thickened to desired consistency. Add more pepper flakes, salt and pepper if necessary. Add more sugar if sauce is too acidic.
Mix with cooked penne, and top with fresh parsley, fresh basil or parmesan.
