Ingredients
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3 cups bread flour
- 4 tsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. bread machine yeast
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon water
Directions
I add all ingredients (except 2nd egg and 1 T. water) to my bread machine and set in on the dough cycle. If you don't have a bread machine, just mix it up by hand and let it rise until doubled. Then punch it down and let it rise again until doubled.
After 2nd rising (or when bread cycle is completed), knead in enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Roll into a 14x6-inch rectangle. Gently pull each strip into a rope about 16 inches long. Shape into pretzels, place on greased baking sheets. Do not let rise again. Combine egg and 1 T. water; brush on pretzels and sprinkle with coarse salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, etc. Bake at 350 for 18-20 minutes or until done. Makes 12 pretzels.
