Don't let the buttermilk discourage you from trying this recipe. Buttermilk will last a long time in the refrigerator and is better than regular milk when making pancakes, package muffins, salad dressings,etc. This makes a really good banana bread. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup mashed bananas
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk

Directions

Cream 1 cup sugar with 3/4 cup butter or margarine.Add 2 eggs and beat until very well mixed.Add 2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda and 1/4 tsp salt. Add buttermilk and mashed bananas. Fold in 1/2 cup crushed walnuts. Bake in a greased and floured loaf pan. Before baking sprinkle top of bread with sugar. Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until done.
