Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 12 cups (3 lbs.) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 Tablespoons vanilla

Directions

his is a recipe everyone should have to use for cakes, cookies, anything that needs frosting. It is a huge batch, enough to decorate a 3 tied wedding cake. I usually make half for a cake and a third for cookies. The lemon cuts the sweetness of most frostings and its really easy to handle.

1. In a large bowl cream together the butter and shortening until well blended.

2. Add 4 cups of sugar, gradually, cream well.

3. Blend in lemon juice and vanilla.

4. Beat in the rest of the sugar alternating with the evaporated milk. Frosting should be stiff enough to hold a clean cut line when a knife is drawn through it.
