This salad graces every McMahon family gathering. We always know, from our earliest years, that we are attending a family "feast" whenever we see Grandma Mary's fruit salad.
- seedless grapes
- maraschino cherries
- can mandarin oranges
- canned fruit cocktail or cubed pears and peaches
- sliced bananas (added at the last moments)
- sweet apples such as Empire, diced
- heavy cream prepared with confectioner's sugar and vanilla to taste
Cut and dice fruits as follows:
grapes: cut in half
drain any canned fruit such as fruit cocktail and mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries.
Cut cherries in half
Add sliced bananas at the last moment
lightly toss mixed fruit into the sweet cream. refrigerate until ready to serve.*
many people serve this as a dessert; in our family, Grandma Mary's Fruit Salad goes on the holiday table with dinner.
