Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

Mix the shortening, sugar and eggs together thoroughly. Sift the flour with the other dry ingredients and stir in.

Chill dough. Roll into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in mixture of 2 T. sugar and 2 t. cinnamon. Place about 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned ...but still soft. (These cookies puff up at first ...then flatten out with crindled tops. Bake in 400* oven for 8 to 10 miunutes. Makes about 5 doz. 2" cookies.

This is from a cookbook I had when I was first married in the early 50s. I used to make them often for the children but hadn't thought of them for years. They were so good with cold glasses of milk. Think I'll go make up a batch!
