These are unbelievable! If you grew up hating those nasty, smelly things your mother made you eat, you won't believe these!

Ingredients

  • 12-15 fresh brussel sprouts (ends trimmed and cut in half)
  • 6 dried dates (sliced/chopped into small pieces)
  • 1 tblsp lingonberry preserves (currant or raspberry jams are alright too)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • salt, pepper and sugar to taste

Directions

Drop brussel sprouts into salted boiling water for 3-5 minutes. Test for tenderness but be sure that they do not begin to smell or lose their bright color. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

In a small saute pan, heat 1/2 tbsp olive oil. When hot, add garlic and cook until it is tender (not brown.)

Add brusell sprouts, figs, salt and pepper to the pan and cook on low for a few minutes until the figs become soft. Again, make sure that the sprouts are not losing their color. Add preserves and stir. Remove from heat. Adjust with salt, pepper and sugar if needed.
