Ingredients
- 1&1/4 cup warm milk
- 1 egg
- 2 TBS very soft butter
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 cups flour (to get a better rise - always include 1/8 cup of gluten flour in that 4 cups)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cardamon
- 1&1/2 tsp yeast
- 3/4 cup (or more if you like) raisins
- 1/4 cup sugar
- dash of water
Directions
Put all ingredients, except for the raisins, 1/4 cup sugar and water, into the bread maker in the order listed.
Mix on dough cycle, do not add in raisins until kneading is almost completed, say 3 minutes left. (if you add too early raisins will be chopped up very fine)
Once finished cycle, remove and split dough in half.
With each half split in another 3 equal pieces. Roll these into long thin ropes (maybe 14 inches long) Lay all three together and start braid in the middle, braiding out to one end then go the other way to the other end. (Easier to handle then starting at the top) Pinch ends to close. Repeat procedure with other half of dough. Place on cookie sheet and cover with plastic lightly and allow to rise in a warm place till doubled. Bake in a 350 degree oven middle rack, for approximately 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Immediately after removing from the oven, brush with the sugar and water mixture, don't make to watery. Sugar will melt and once cool will be a glossy glaze. Makes 2 large loaves.
Delicious, enjoy, Happy Easter!
