The filling is really up to you- it is simply a meat pie with a mashed potato top. You can make the potatoes and filling ahead of time, but leave it out to come to room temp before cooking if you do. Otherwise you will wind up burning the top and have a cold middle.

Ingredients

  • 1+ lb of ground meat
  • 2 T flour
  • 1/4 c water or broth
  • a few carrots, bite size pieces
  • a large onion, chopped
  • mushrooms, bite size
  • parsnips, bite size
  • peas
  • s + p
  • worcestershire sauce, optional (1T)
  • mashed potatoes
  • (potatoes, milk, butter, seasoning)

Directions

While potatoes are cooking, prepare filling. Brown meat and set aside, leaving a little fat in the pan. Toss the meat with water and flour. In the pan, fry onion 3 min, add hard vegetables and cook until onion is transluscent. Add peas and mushrooms if you like. Season.

Put filling in casserole dish. Top with mashed potatoes. Cook at 350 degrees for about 30 min. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Since the dish is already cooked, you really only need to brown the potatoes, but the filling should be hot and bubbly.

Forget about it. You don't eat this often enough to care.
