Ingredients
- 4 cups day-old French bread, cubed
- 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 12 eggs, slightly beaten
- 3 cups milk
- 1 tsp. dry mustard
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. ground pepper
- 1 lb. bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
- 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
- 1 bunch scallions, sliced with some of the green tops
- 1 medium tomato, peeled and chopped (drain juice)
Directions
Butter a 9 x 13 baking dish. Arrange cubes of bread in dish. Distribute cheese evenly on top. Beat together egg, mustard, salt, pepper and milk. Pour over bread cubes. Top with remaining ingredients. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Preheat oven 325 degrees. Remove plastic and bake uncovered for about an hour or until set.
