Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups cake flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup raisins
- Butter Cream Frosting (see below)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 F. Grease and flour a 3-quart bundt pan. Cream the sugar and the shortening until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Add the soda to the sour milk and stir until it starts to foam. Add the sour milk to the sugar mixture. Mix well. Sift together the flour with all the spices and salt. Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture and mix until smooth. Add the raisins. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a tester comes out clean when inserted in the center. Cool for about 15 minutes in the pan before turning out to cool completely on a rack. Ice with Butter Cream Frosting.
Butter Cream Frosting
Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions:
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Beat until smooth and creamy. If too stiff, beat in several additional drops of milk. If too creamy, add a little more powdered sugar.
