Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sour milk*
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

* To sour milk put 1 tablespoon vinegar in a 1 cup glass measuring cup. Add milk to make 1/2 cup. Let stand 5 minutes.

Cream together the sugars and shortening thouroughly.

Add the beaten eggs.

Sift together the dry ingredients.

Add alternately with the sour milk. Beat well after each addition.

Fold in boiling water. Add vanilla.

Pour into a greased and floured 13x9x2 baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until cake tests done.

Cool and frost with favorite frosting.
