Make a great dim sum snack or a sweet contribution to a buffet.

Ingredients

  • 1/4c shredded coconut, 1/4c raisins, chopped, 1/4c chopped walnuts, 1/4c sugar, 2T black sesame seeds, 2T white sesame seeds, 1/2t cinnamon, about 2 dozen wonton wrappers, 1 egg(beaten), vegetable oil for frying.

Directions

Combine the filling ingredients in a medium bowl; set aside. Place 1t of filling in the center of a wonton wrapper(keep the remaining wrappers covered to prevent drying). Brush the edges of the wrapper lightly with egg. Fold it in half over the filling to form a triangle; press the edges firmly to seal. Repeat with the remaining filling and wrappers. As you work, place the filled wontons slightly apart on a baking sheet and cover them with a damp cloth until all are filled.

Heat oil to 360 degrees and adjust to medium-high heat. Fry the wontons, a few at a time, turning them occasionally, until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Lift them out and drain them on paper towels.

For a variation: use 1/4c semisweet chocolate chips and 12t grated orange peel in place of the raisins.
