Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups softened butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 6 squares (one oz. each) unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and at room temperature
  • 2 packages unfilled ladyfinger cookies
  • 1/2 pint whipping cream
  • 1 to 3 Tbs. sifted confectioner's (powdered) sugar
  • 1/2 Tbs. vanilla

Directions

In a large bowl, cream butter with electric mixer. Slowly add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Pour in chocolate and mix well. Refrigerate while pan is prepared.
Separate ladyfingers (top from bottom), leaving them connected at the sides. Line a 10-inch springform pan with the ladyfingers, sides and bottom. Pour filling into pan and return to refrigerator.
Pour chilled cream into chilled small bowl. With mixer running slowly, add one to three tablespoons powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Whip until soft peaks form. Spread whipped cream on mousse cake and refrigerate for two hours.
Remove from springform pan and garnish.
