Ingredients

  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 1 oz. butter
  • 2 1/4 lb. potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 C light cream
  • salt and pepper
  • 6 oz. grated Comte or Gruyyere cheese
  • 3 oz. butter cut into small dice

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Rub the bottom and sides of a heavy baking dish with crushed garlic cloved. Grease side and bottom liberally with butter. Arrange 1/2 potatoe slices in the bottom of baking dish. Over potatoes, sprinkle cheese, salt and pepper and dot with the butter dices.

Top with the remaining slices of potatoes, neated arranged in a spiral effect. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese, salt, pepper and butter dices.

Pour the cream into the side of the dish around the potatoes. Cook in the oven for 30-40 min. or until potatoes are tender and the top nicely browned.
