Ingredients

  • 1 loaf firm white bread (~10-15 slices)
  • 9 eggs
  • 4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 oz. white chocolate grated
  • 3 oz. bittersweet chocolate grated (NOT unsweetened)
  • White Chocolate custard sauce (recipe follows

Directions

Lightly toast bread and place bread overlapping at the bottom of a 9""x13"" greased baking dish. Mix milk, eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla until blended. Stir in grated chocolates. Pour entire mixture over toasted bread and let stand 30 minutes to soak through. (You may need to periodically spoon mixture over the bread to ensure the bread is saturated.) Cover with foil and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Uncover and continue baking for 20 minutes. Serve warm with chilled custard sauce.

White Chocolate Custard Sauce: Whisk 1/4 c. sugar into 4 egg yolks and set aside. In a medium saucepan, heat 1 c. milk and 3/4 c. of heavy cream until small bubbles form around the edge of pan. Add a small amount of milk mixture into egg yolks and blend well. Slowly add egg yolks to milk mixture, stirring constantly to avoid lumping. Continue cooking over low/medium heat until mixture thickens (about 10 minutes - do not boil). Pour sauce over 3 oz. grated white chocolate and stir until blended. Refrigerate
