This is really a pretty basic recipe. You can add a tsp any of your own favorite spices to suit your taste, such as garlic powder, catsup, BBQ sauce etc.
Ingredients
- Onion Hot Dog Sauce
- 8 tb Vegetable oil
- 4 c Red or White Onions, cut in quarters and dice crosswise
- 1 1/2 tsp Sweet paprika
- 1/4 tsp Cumin
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- Fresh pepper to taste
- 8 Hot dogs
- 8 Hot Dog Buns
Directions
Heat oil slightly in a heavy skillet and add onions, tossing until coated with oil.
Add paprika, cumin, salt and pepper and toss again.
Cover and simmer over low heat about 25
minutes, stir often.
Do not allow onions to brown.
Onions should still be a little firm when finished.
If mixture becomes dry, add a few Tbsp. water.
Grill hot dogs. Open buns, swab with butter and toast lightly in a pan.
Put hot dogs in the buns and spoon the onion mixture
over them, dividing equally.
Serve immediately.
