My daughter added the walnuts to the original recipe and I think it was a great move! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, optional
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 cup boiling water

Directions

Sift together in bowl, flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Melt together 1/4 cup cocoa and margarine. Stir in the milk and vanilla. Add all at one time to dry ingredients and mix well. Add walnuts, if using. Turn into a buttered 2-quart casserole. Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar and 2 Tbsp. cocoa. Sprinkle over batter. Pour boiling water over the top. DO NOT stir. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes. Cake forms on top with sauce underneath. Spoon into serving dishes, warm or room temperature.
