Ingredients

  • 1 lb. phyllo (pastry sheets, may be purchaed in frozen foods section of grocery store)
  • 1 c. sweet butter, melted
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 t. rosewater (optional)
  • 2 c. walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 t. lemon juice

Directions

Butter a 9x13x2" pan. Layer bottom with 4 sheets of dough and brush with butter. Repeat buttering every 4 sheets until stack is 1" high. Spread with nuts. Pile up sheets 1" high, as before. Use up all the butter. Cut diagonally into diamond shapes. Bake in 250 degree oven for 2 1/2 hours. While baking prepare syrup of 1 c. water and 2 c. sugar. sprikle syrup with lemon juice and rosewater. Pour over hot baked pastry. cool before serving.
