Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsweetened apple juice
  • 1/4 lb unsulphured dried sliced apples (2 cups)*
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of allspice
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • *Available at health food stores

Directions

1) Combine all of the ingredients to a large saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to moderately low, cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and the liquid is syrupy, about 20 minutes. Set aside to cool for 5 minutes.

2) Scrape the mixture into a blender and puree, about 1 minute. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
