We went to a yard sale at a little church where the pastors wife made these for sale. I would still be there if she had not shared this recipe with me! I included them in my cookbook.

  • 1 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cube softened butter (or Marg)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 cup flour
  • 1 pkg. yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup water
  • 3 egg ylks - beaten
  • 3 Tblp. sugar

Scald milk & add to salt, sugar and shortening. When lukewarm add yeast which has been dissoled in water add 2 cups flour and mix well. Let stand about 1 hr. until light and spongy. Add egg yolks, vanilla and rest of flour. Blend well and let rise until double about 2 hours. Turn out on floured board roll out to 1/2 to 3/4 in. thick. Cut into doughnuts, cover and let rise about 1/2 hr. before frying. Deep fry in very hot oil. Glaze with 1 Pkg. powdered sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 cube butter(or Marg), 1/2 cup milk or enough milk to make a thick running glaze.

Lots of calories but Oh so good!
