makes 8-10 turnovers

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 2 Cups apples, peeled & sliced
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 Cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 Cup vegetable oil
  • 1/3 Cup buttermilk

Directions

Combine 1st 4 ingredients in pan. Cook and stir until boiling, continue to cook 2 min. Set aside to cool. Combine flour, soda and salt. Add vegetable oil and buttermilk, stir til ball forms. Roll on floured surface to 1/4 " and cut into 4 1/2" circles. Place 1 Tbsp filling on each and fold in half. Seal edges with fork. Fry in 1/2 " oil in skillet about 1 1/2 min per side until golden. Drain and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
