Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh spinach or 1(10 oz) pkg frozen chopped spinach
- 1 cup shredded mozzarela or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 lb extra lean groun beef
- 3/4 cup reulgar or quick-cooking rolled oats
- 2/3 cup ketchup
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 chopped onion
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1 tsp dried leaf oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried leaf basil
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook spinach , drain well. Press spinach in a sieve to remove excess liquid. In a small bowl, mix spinach and 1/2 cup cheese; set aside. In a large bowl, thoroughly combine beef, oats, ketchup, egg, onion, garlic salt, oregano and basil. Press 1/2 of meat mixture into an 8 inch square baking dish. Top with spinach mixture in an even layer, then remainng meat mixture in an even layer. Bake, uncovered, 30 to 45 minutes or until meat shrinks away from sides of dish. Drain off any extra fat from baking dish; sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered 5 mintues longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting into 6 squares.
