Sauvignon Blanc Wine Tasting Notes

2005 Brassfield Estate Winery Serenity
High Valley [Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Gewurztraminer - not listed on label]
Score: 88.0
A delicious blend of 63% Sauvignon Blanc, 29% Pinot Grigio, and 6% Gewurztraminer from the small High Valley Appellation in Lake County (North of Napa, East of Mendocino). This is a dry wine on the palate (the barely perceptible residual sugar is balanced by good acidity and a hint of spritz). Each of the variety finds its expression in the blend, and together present an aromatic wine with hints of white peach, nectarine and citrus through to the tart finish. One of our consumer panel's favorites.
2000 Kim Crawford
Marlborough New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 87.0
"Crisp acidity, yet a silky texture give this wine a complimentary ying/yang structure. The fruit is tart gooseberry and lime with a very subtle herbaceousness, followed by a citrus and mineral finish. The quintessential shellfish wine, it should age gracefully for a decade."
1999 Fetzer Vineyards Echo Ridge
California Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 92.0
"A great palate-cleansing Sauvignon Blanc with a nose of lemongrass and pineapple, silky mouthfeel, and crisp, dry flavors of key lime and subtle mint. Perfect with Salmon in dill sauce. Fabulous value."
1999 Chateau Ste. Michelle
Columbia Valey Sauvignon Blanc Barrel Fermented
Score: 89.0
"For those of you who want a little oak in your Sauvignon Blanc, heres a fine example of the traditional blending of Sauvignon Blanc (75%) and Semillon (25%), which displays dry honeydew melon and mineral character, just the barest hint of toasty oak and dried marjorum, and citrusy fruit in the finish. "
1999 Callaway Coastal
California Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 87.0
If you like the New Zealand style of Sauvignon Blanc, you'll love this delightful Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and lime fruit, silky smooth texture, and the barest hint of spice in the background. Perfect match for a wide variety of foods, from poultry and fish, to Asian cuisine.
1999 Errazuriz
La Escultura Estate Casablanca Valley Chile Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest
Score: 95.0
"An extraordinary late harvest Sauvignon Blanc which retains its varietal fruity character of gosseberry and honeydew melon fruit, with honey tones and crisp, balancing acidity. Accidentally left open on a shelf for three weeks, it was fresh and tasty, without excess oxidation., leading me to believe that this is a wine that will last a lifetime. Half bottle."
1996 Beringer Nightingale
North Coast Botrytised 70% Semillon / 30% Sauvignon Blanc Private Reserve
Score: 92.0
"A well-balanced dessert wine displaying honey and butterscotch aromas and flavors, full bodied and velvety smooth on the palate, with 13% residual sugar and bracing acidity that keeps it from being cloying. Goes beautifully with the cheese course."
1999 Dry Creek Vineyard
Sonoma County "Fume Blanc, Dry Sauvignon Blanc"
Score: 92.0
"Super fruity gooseberry and lime with a complex herbal/asparagus background, crisp acidity and long, complex, fruit and dried herb finish. Great with shellfish or spicy foods."
199 Geyser Peak
Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 88.0
"Medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and pink grapefruit character, crisp acidity, and an herbal overlay in the finish."
1999 Beaulieu Vineyard
Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 87.0
"After tasting this wine blind, I looked at the accompanying material and found, to my surprise, that 75% was barrel fermented. If so, it must have been older oak, because it has none of the vanilla and toast character of new oak. What the barrel fermentation may have imparted is a certain creamy texture on the mid-palate. The fruit is bright and figgy on the nose, with the addition of tart lime tones and muted tarragon on the palate. Perfect with sea bass, sole, and chilled prawns."
1999 Errazuriz
La Escultura Estate Casablanca Valley [Chile] Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 87.0
"Dry grapefruit and tart gooseberry fruit with a light herbal background an excellent length. A great fish wine, and a great bargain."
1999 Beringer Founders Estate
California Sauvignon Blanc
Score: 87.0
"Full-bodied and smokey, very dry, with dried herb (tarragon?) and oak spice on the palate. Viscous on the mid-palate, it has crisp acidity through the herbal finish."
