A fine aperitif." 1996 Mirassou Monterey County Merlot Score: 90.0 "A double helix of intertwining flavors, intense, complex and well-balanced. Concentrated, aromatic black currants and blackberries, light tannin, with nuances of oak and a complex spicy, fruity finish of great length. A special wine that deserves attention, both to ponder over and to serve with fine food. Pair with beef or pasta and tomato sauce." 1997 Jekel Vineyards FOS Monterey Chardonnay Reserve Score: 87.0 "As rich a Chardonnay as youll be likely to find. Extra full-bodied, smooth as the inside of a womans thigh (well leave that to your imagination), butter and vanilla with the impression of sweetness on entry, though dry through the spicy finish. Intense, serve well-chilled. It is perhaps best enjoyed as an aperitif, though it would also serve with dishes like coquille St. Jacques and other cream sauces." 1997 Jekel Vineyards Monterey Merlot Score: 87.0 "Tight and well-structured, this is a wine that showcases black cherry fruit and subtle oak spice, moderate tannin and a finish that is long and tight. A wine that promises to be around for the long haul, you could pair it now with steak and hamburger. Easy match for poultry, pork, veal or Asian cuisine. Fine value."
