Gewurztraminer Wine Tasting Notes

2005 Brassfield Estate Winery Serenity
High Valley [Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Gewurztraminer - not listed on label]
Score: 88.0
A delicious blend of 63% Sauvignon Blanc, 29% Pinot Grigio, and 6% Gewurztraminer from the small High Valley Appellation in Lake County (North of Napa, East of Mendocino). This is a dry wine on the palate (the barely perceptible residual sugar is balanced by good acidity and a hint of spritz). Each of the variety finds its expression in the blend, and together present an aromatic wine with hints of white peach, nectarine and citrus through to the tart finish. One of our consumer panel's favorites.

"Light, clean and intense with varietal character, this Washington Gewurz is almost dry, and displays lychee and peach fruit over light spice. Wonderful as an aperitif or with spicy Asian dishes. Value priced at $7.00"

1998 Navarro Vineyards
Anderson Valley Mendocino Gewurztraminer Late Harvest Sweet
Score: 100.0
"In my pantheon of California 'First Growths' Navarro is at the top of the heap for the best New World Gewurztraminer, and in this case one of the best late harvest wines ever produced anywhere in the world. My powers of description are sadly inadequate: Aromatic apricot and lychee, sisal rope and honey, sweet, amazingly spicy and perfectly balanced by crisp acidity and a hint of bitterness, this is a wine that simply has no peers. It is AS GOOD AS IT GETS."

1998 Mill Creek
Dry Creek Valley Gewurztraminer
Score: 84.0
"Not very complex, this Gewurz is nonetheless emphatically varietal with lychee and cinnamon aromas and flavors, and the finish lingers for minutes. Just off-dry, its an easy quaff at an affordable price. Good as an aperitif, or try with the Thanksgiving turkey, or cashew chicken."
1997 Thomas Fogerty
Monterey Gewurztraminer

"Perfect as an aperitif, this slightly sweet Gewurz has rich grapefruit and lychee character, good acidity, and a long spicy finish of cinnamon and nutmeg."
