French Wine Tasting Notes
1996 Chateau Haut-Beausejour Saint-Estephe [France] [Bordeaux] Cru Bourgeois Score: 85.0 "Overtones of wet straw in the nose, dried berries and herbs on the mid-palate, light tannin, dry herbal finish. On its own this wine is unfinished. It needs food to complete it. Rabbit or coq au vin would be perfect."
1997 Delas Freres Les Launes [France] Crozes-Hermitage [Blanc] Score: 87.0 "A blend of the northern Rhone white varieties Marsanne and Roussane, this bone dry Crozes-Hermitage has the weight and texture of Chardonnay, but with a distinctly different flavor profile that tends more toward muted hawthorne blossom and blanched almonds. The fruit is lean and the finish long and flinty. Excellent oyster wine."
1997 Delas Freres Les Calcerniers [France] Chateauneuf du Pape Score: 88.0 "Multi-faceted aroma and flavors of leather, plums, dried cherries and nutmeg, dry, tart, unobtrusive tannin, and a tart dried fruit finish. Good match for strong cheeses."
1997 Rivefort de France Vin de Pays dOc [France] Merlot Score: 84.0 "Lovely black cherry fruit, soft and ripe on the palate, with a super fruity finish. Simple, but extremely attractive and a great bargain. The quintessential hamburger or spaghetti wine. Winemaker Aaron Pott also recommends this with Cassoulet."
