(Green beans and beef with potatoes-German)


  • 1 pound round steak, 1/2 inch thick, cut into cubes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cans(1 lb. each) green beans, undrained
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 5 tablespoons flour
  • 2 1/2to 3 lbs. Idaho potatoes, cut into 1 1/2-inch chunks


Brown cubes of round steak until just before they begin to burn. Quickly add hot water, then add salt and pepper. Simmer until the meat is tender, then add undrained green beans.

In another pan, combine margarine and flour until mixture begins to brown, then drain off liquid from meat/bean mixture and slowly add enough to make a smooth paste. Stir paste into meat/bean mixture.

To prepare potatoes, cover and cook until done. Drain and return to heat to allow remaining moisture to evaporate. Continue process six or seven times, or until potatoes are dry and grainy.

Serve round steak/bean mixture over potatoes
