Soak beans overnight. In morning, drain and cover with water. Cook 15-20 minutes, then add soda and boil 10-15 minutes longer. Drain. Rinse well. Cover beans with water. Add onions, bacon and 3 tsp. of salt. Cook until beans are completely done. Add water as needed. After beans are done add molasses, the 2 1/2 tsp. salt and sugar. Stir well. Be sure there is enough water in mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 4 or more hours. Stir occasionally. Take them out of oven when they are a little soupy. They will thicken as they cool. This is the amount for a big oval roaster.
