Ingredients:

4 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups milk

Directions:

Mix just enough to blend ingredients.
The recipe makes 2-3 glasses of milk shake; any less would be untrue to the soda fountain silver pitcher tradition. Consider the measurements starting points, and adjust ice cream, milk, and flavoring to taste. With very high quality ice cream, less flavoring is required.

Any blender will make a shake, although the kind with large blades at the bottom tends to pulverize the ice cream quickly, making for a thin shake. Don't overmix! Good vanilla ice cream and very cold milk are crucial for that velvety texture.
