You may use your favorite brownie recipe, one that makes a 9x13 pan full, in place of the brownie mix if you wish. Adjust baking time slightly, about 5 or 20 minutes longer than normal.

Ingredients

  • 1 (22 1/2 oz.) Brownie Mix
  • 2 (3-oz) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 5 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • Frosting:
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch pan. For the first layer, prepare brownie mix according to package directions for cake-like brownies. Pour half the brownie mix into the prepared pan and set aside. For the next layer, beat together cream cheese and butter in a medium-size mixing bowl. Add sugar, eggs, flour and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Spread mixture evenly over brownie layer. Top with remaining brownie batter. Pull a knife through the batter in wide curves to create a marbled effect. Bake 30 - 40 minutes. To prepare the frosting; melt butter in a small saucepan. Add cocoa and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat. Combine powdered sugar, milk and vanilla and add to butter-cocoa mixture. Beat until it is spreading consistency and frost slightly warm brownies. Cool before cutting.

Makes 2 dozen.
