Cranberry Liqueur Recipe

  Beverage

Ingredients:
12 oz bag cranberries, washed
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1-1/2 cups 100-proof vodka
2 teaspoons grapefruit zest

Directions:
Coarsely chop cranberries in food processor or blender and transfer to 2 quart jar. Add sugar, stir, and let stand for 1 hour. Add water, vodka, and grapefruit zest. Cover tightly and let stand in a cool, dark place for one month. Shake 2 or 3 times per week to prevent the fruit from clumping.

Strain through a coarse sieve or colander. Discard solids. Strain again through a fine-mesh strainer. Transfer into a clean container and let stand for a week. Decant or filter into final container. Cover and age for at least a month.

Makes about a quart. It mellows with age.
