Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted unbleached flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup butter, chilled
  • 3/4 cup milk, room temperature

Directions

Sift together into large mixing bowl---flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar. Cut in butter until bits of butter are size of medium peas. Mix in milk, only until ingredients are blended. DO NOT OVERMIX. Form into a ball; pat out on floured board to 3/4-inch thickness. Cut into biscuits using a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet or 13-in.x 9-in.x2-in. pan. Bake at 475 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden brown.


Yield: 10 biscuits.
