Ingredients

  • 4 pounds pork ribs
  • Water
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons dark corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder

Directions

Early in day or day ahead....Cut spareribs into 2 or 3-rib portions. Place in 8-quart Dutch oven, add sliced onion, and cold water to cover. Over high heat, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer for one hour or until almost tender. Drain. In medium bowl, combine ketchup and remaining ingredients for sauce. Place parboiled spareribs and sauce in shallow covered casserole. Be sure ribs are well covered in sauce. Bake in slow oven (300 degrees F) for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, basting with sauce every 30 minutes. (If made day ahead, cool and refrigerate until ready to grill.) Prepare outdoor grill. Place ribs on grill over medium coals. Grill 10-15 minutes (or until heated through), brushing often with sauce, turning ribs occasionally. Serve with remaining sauce.

Makes 4 servings.
