Ingredients
- 1 T cornstarch
- 1 t granulated sugar
- 1 t dry mustard
- 1 c cold water
- 1/4 c white vinegar
- 1/4 c ketchup
- 1 t Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 t paprika
- Dash hot pepper sauce
- 1 clove garlic,crushed(or 1/8 t garlic powder)
- 1/2 t onion salt(optional)
Directions
In small saucepan, combine cornstarch, sugar and dry mustard; mix well. Gradually stir in water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbly. Let cool 10 minutes.
Stir in vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sacue, paprika, hot pepper sauce, garlic and onion salt. Pour into glass jar with lid or other container with a tight-fitting lid. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, to let flavors blend. Mix well before pouring over salad. Makes about 1-1/3 cups.
Note: This dressing clings to salad ingredients, just like the more expensive bottled ones. It has a tangy garlicky flavor and keeps well in the refrigerator. You can change the seasonings to suit your taste. Try adding 1/2 tsp. dried herbs, such as dill weed, savory, thyme or oregano.
