My Mom probably got this recipe from her local newspaper back in the late 60's or so. It was REAL impressive the first time she did it. This is a favorite for an attention getter after a fancy meal. And, besides that, it tastes great. you just can't go wrong with chocolate pudding, Oreo cookies, and whipped topping.
Ingredients
- 1 Medium Flower Pot, about 8" Diameter
- Plastic Gummy Worms
- Fresh or Plastic Flowers
- 1 16 Oz. Bag Oreo Cookies
- 1/4 Cup Butter or Margarine, Softened, 1/2 stick
- 1 8 Oz. Pkg. Cream Cheese, softened
- 1/2 Cup Confectioner's Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 Small Boxes Instant Chocolate-fudge Flavored Pudding
- 1 1/2 Cups Milk
- 1/2 12 Oz. Tub Whipped Topping, thawed
Directions
1. Crush the cookies until they resemble potting soil, then set aside.
2. Cream the butter, cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy. Set aside.
3. Combine the pudding mix and the milk until blended well, then fold in the whipped topping. Gently fold the pudding and cream cheese mixtures together.
4. Be sure to line the inside of the pot with plastic wrap before you put the cake together.
5. To put the cake together, layer 1/3 of the cookie crumbs followed by 1/2 of the pudding mixture, then 1/3 of the cookie crumbs and the other 1/2 of the pudding mixture then the rest of the cookie crumbs on top.
6. Refrigerate at least 10 - 12 hours prior to serving.
7. To serve, Cover the outside of the pot with colored tin foil like they use at a florist. Wrap the stalks of the flowers (fresh or plastic) in tin foil then arrange them in the pot. You can place a couple of gummy worms on top of the top layer of cookie crumbs (I prefer not to). Place the pot as a centerpiece on your table while you're eating. It will blow somebodies mind the first time you clear the plates of the table and dig in to the "dirt" of the pot.
