Ingredients
- 8 Medium Granny Smith Apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 1/2 Cups Sugar, as needed
- 1/4 Cup All-purpose Flour
- 6 Ounces Apple Juice
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon, to taste
- 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg, to taste
- 1/4 Cup Raisins
- 1/4 Cup Chopped Pecans, toasted, or walnuts
- Butter, for greasing the pan
Directions
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Butter a 9 x 13 oven proof pan (I use a 1/2 Chafer pan). Peal and core the apples, then slice thinly and place in the pan. Mix the flour with the sugar and spices, then, add to the pan. Mix well Taste the apples for tartness and add additional sugar as needed. Finally, sprinkle the raisins and chopped nuts on top.
3. Make one recipe for "Crisp Topping" and sprinkle on top.
4. Bake at 350 for 30 - 45 minutes, or until it's bubbling pretty good in the center.
5. Let cool to room temperature. If you dig into it while it's hot, all the juices will just run out. Serve with ice cream, whipped cream, or just heavy cream. I really like to add Apple Schnapps to the cream while I'm whipping it to compliment the apples. Plus, the small taste of the liquor doesn't hurt.
